Decree Your Day

Text: Job 22:28 “Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.”

As followers of Jesus we have a spiritual inheritance that is promised to us in the word of God. In an earlier devotional I listed many of the promises the scriptures make to us as believers. These promises are not idle promises, these are promises that we can “hang our hats on” as children of God. That is a country term that we country folks use to convey that is a promise you can bet on. :)

A decree is a legal term that means to command or make judgement. Kings and Queens make decrees. Why does the scripture give us the ability to make a legal command or judgement? Because we have been given legal authority and right to the inheritance promised to us by our Heavenly Father. Did you realize you are royalty in your Father's kingdom?

Our legal authority is given to us for our protection and our provision. When this authority is understood and we begin to decree the protection and provision God has promised us in the scripture over our day, we take the power of the devil away to obstruct or delay God’s promises.

I want to give you some decrees that you can use to start out your day. You will find that when you start your day declaring the promises of God over your life you will begin to see your day prosper and become much less difficult.

  • I ask God to set a guard over my mouth. He keeps watch over the door of my lips (Psalm 141:3).

  • I let the peace of Christ rule in my heart. As a member of one body, I am called to peace and I am thankful (Colossians 3:15 NIV).

  • I walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in all respects. I bear fruit in every good work and I am increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10 NAS).

  • I am being strengthened with all power according to His might. I have great endurance and patience (Colossians 1:11 NIV).

May the God of peace guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
